During 2000, the University completed a large number of relatively small value projects. Many of these were necessary to ensure that buildings complied with Health and Safety standards.

The Collaborative Training and Education Centre (ctec) wing of the Anatomy Building, housing the Centre for Medical and Surgical Skills which provides a training facility for medical and paramedical professionals, was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and has been hailed as a very successful initiative.

After a prolonged period of investigation, work recommenced on the design of a new Chemistry/Biochemistry/Crystallography Building. The commitment to this building is likely to reduce the University’s capacity to undertake other expensive projects for the next three to four years.
